If I had to explain to you, in the simplest way possible, the most effective dieting plan to stay lean year round, than well this is my attempt.
As Einstein said, “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.
In one sentence, here it goes: consume less calories than you burn.
All that matters is that you burn more throughout the day than you consume.
That’s the way to stay lean.
How can you be sure you’re doing that?
Hit Up Your Local Nutrition Store
The first thing you want to do is actually find out how many calories you’re burning a day.
This can be done for free at your local nutrition store. Just tell them you’re gonna purchase a product.
And for good karma, actually support your local business and buy something.
Shout out all to all those mom and pop shops.
Macros, The Next Most Important Thing
Next, the most important thing on the checklist to ensure you stay lean: your macros.
The calories that you consume should be based off macros that will best get you towards where you want to be: as lean as possible.
Your macros are your proteins, fats, carbs.
Protein and Fat (Your Best Friends)
Your protein consumption should be around one gram per pound of your lean bodyweight (ideally).
Whey protein shakes always help and when you do consume protein, try to consume from the leanest source possible
And support the environment by purchasing grass-fed if it doesn’t burn a hole through your wallet.
Next are your fats. These are highly important in your quest to stay lean.
Again, you should be consuming somewhere around 0.5 grams per pound of bodyweight.
Ideally you want to keep these from your good fats: think avocados, nuts, seeds and olive oil.
How About Those Damn Carbs?
Forget the stigma and let’s keep it simple.
Think of carbs as simply energy to support your workouts.
Did you do a triathlon?
Go for that pasta.
Did you have to cut your workout short because of a work obligation?
Sorry buddy, keep it light.
You need to earn your carbs to stay lean.
Measure, Test, Repeat And Stay Lean
If you want to make it easier on yourself, download MyFitnessPal and start logging in the food you eat.
This will show you where you stand with your calories, macros and even allow you to come up with a plan of what to eat throughout the week.
The best way to make sure that you stay on track is by testing, measuring and then repeating.
This one habit will change your life for the better.
Once you feel that your results are diminishing, go retest your body fat composition and BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate).
As the great business thought leader, Peter Drucker, so wisely said:
“If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it.”
Now you can repeat the whole process all over again.
Many Roads Lead To Success
Whether you want to do this in a vegan, paleo, ketogenic, intermittent fasting or whatsoever fashion is up to you.
I am simply providing the blueprint for staying lean.
What you decide to eat to get there is completely up to you.
Always remember, there never is just one road to success.
But the fundamentals will always remain the same.
Remember, consume less calories than you burn and hit your macros.
Stay lean, my friends.
